Brazil, officially known as the Federative Republic of Brazil, is the largest South American country. It is the world’s fifth largest country, both geographically and in terms of population. More than half of the population is Caucasian (mostly Portuguese, Italian and Polish). Brazil’s language and culture are greatly influenced by Portugal. Brazil has a patriarchal society and strong family ties characterize their society. Brazil is South America’s leading economic power owing to its vast natural resources and a large labor pool. Characterized by large and well-developed agricultural, mining, manufacturing, and service sectors, Brazil’s economy outweighs all other South American countries. Brazil has a GDP of $2.141 trillion (2017).
