Chile, officially known as the Republic of Chile, is a South American country with a population of 17.3 million comprising of Caucasian and Amerindian (95.4%), Mapuche (4%) and other indigenous groups (0.6%). The official language of the country is Spanish, Mapudungun, German and English. Chile is ranked as a high-income economy by the World Bank and is considered one of South America’s most stable and prosperous nations. Chilean society is family oriented and children are taught to have a strong respect for their parents. While most families are patriarchal, mothers also enjoy equal rights in decision making.
