The Arab Republic of Egypt is the most populous North African and Arab country, with a population of 95 million. Half the country’s population live in urban areas. Cairo, Alexandria and Giza are the country’s largest cities. Egypt has a predominantly Muslim population (~90%) with a significant Christian minority (~10%).

A highly diversified economy, Egypt overtook South Africa in 2016 to become the second largest in Africa. The economy is primarily dependent on agricultural, media, energy, and tourism sectors, while the information technology sector is steadily expanding. Egypt has a nominal GDP of $408.045 billion (2017).
