Russia, officially known as the Russian Federation, is a country in northern Eurasia. It is a federal semi-presidential republic, comprising 83 federal subjects. Russia’s population is over 144 million. Russian culture has a rich history, deep-rooted traditions and arts. Russian literature, philosophy, classical music, ballet, architecture, painting, cinema and animation are famous world-wide. Russians are known to be proud, patriotic and have high respect for their cultural heritage.

 

The country boasts of natural resources, including timber, precious metals, and fossil fuels. Russia exports petroleum and petroleum products, natural gas, metals, wood and wood products, chemicals, and a wide variety of civilian and military products. It is also a key importer of machinery, vehicles, pharmaceutical products, plastic, semi-finished metal products, meat, fruits and nuts, optical and medical instruments, iron and steel. Russia’s GDP is the 11th largest in the world at $1.469 trillion (2017).
