South Korea, officially known as the Republic of Korea, is an East Asian country. Although the country’s national language is Korean, English is widely adopted and taught as part of standard education. South Korea has re-invented itself as the cultural epicentre of Asian culture. Korean pop music, or K-pop, has been exported with great success all over the world. Family and education are the two building blocks of the South Korean society. It is, along with Taiwan, the only country which has recorded five consecutive decades of economic growth in excess of 5% thanks to its strong governance, thoughtful macro-engineering, sound business practices and sheer diligence from the population. South Korea’s GDP is $1.53 trillion (2017).
